QUAD Kate

My name is Kate Brim! I am part of the Paralympics 2023 Team. My schedule at bottom of page.

I am from Lowell, Michigan. I have always been an athlete. In 2017, when I was just 19, I had routine surgery for a herniated disc. It resulted in a spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed. When I was told I needed help with literally everything I was devastated. I had to start life over again. In August 2021, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Adaptive sports was and is still a big part of my rediscovering and dealing with my now very complex life.

I started to discover through adaptive sports how capable I was and have now managed to become completely independent again. Adaptive sports was a big part of me rediscovering myself. Type 1 diabetes is a daily struggle and requires daily insulin injections to just to stay alive.

I did my first paracycling race in February 2022 and fell in love with the handcycling community.

In July 2022, I raced at the U.S Paracycling National championships. The race opened my eyes to how strong I could be.

In August 2022, I took first place in both the time trial and road race at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup. I did the same at the 2022 UCI Para-cycling Championships.

I am currently in residency as an accepted athlete at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, USA and plan to compete as much as I can (and win).

Podcast Interview Juicebox about my life and especially Type 1 Diabetes.
